The main address is 1 Pavshikh Bortsov Square, Volgograd. The university has one branch, the Pyatigorsk Medical and Pharmaceutical Institute in Pyatigorsk. It is a different institution from Volgograd State University (VolSU), which is a separate university in the same city.
Institutes and research
The university has faculties of General Medicine, Medicine and Biology, Pediatrics, Dentistry and Pharmacy, an Institute of Public Health named after N. P. Grigorenko, and an Institute of Continuing Medical and Pharmaceutical Education. A separate dean's office works with foreign students. Other units include a family medicine clinic, a dental clinical and diagnostic centre, and a scientific centre for innovative medicines.
Students
According to the university, more than 3,000 foreign citizens from 62 countries study alongside Russian students. The university says it has accepted foreign students since 1962.
For international applicants
The dean's office for work with foreign students organises study, adaptation and support. Foreign students study General Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy. On the applicant site, General Medicine takes 6 years, and Dentistry and Pharmacy take 5 years. Russian is the main language of teaching. The university describes English as an alternative for students from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Some programmes are listed as taught through an intermediary language. Entrance tests include chemistry, biology, physics and a foreign language, which is Russian or English depending on the language of instruction.
The dean's office lists support for foreign students: preparatory courses in language and basics of medicine, mentoring by teachers and student volunteers, cultural events and exchanges with partner universities in Europe and Asia. The preparatory department for foreign students offers pre-university programmes in a medical-biological profile and in language training for doctors. Questions about admission go to cved@volgmed.ru.
Housing
According to its mandatory disclosure, the university has three dormitories with 1,352 places. Two are in the Voroshilovsky district (KIM Street and Kozlovskaya Street) and one is in the Central district (Khirosimy Street). Non-resident students, foreign students, students from privileged categories and student families can apply. A place is given only on valid grounds and when housing is free, so an application alone does not guarantee it.
