The university history page says that after the merger VlSU "became one of the largest universities in the Central Federal District".
Its structure includes institutes of mechanical engineering and automobile transport; information technologies and electronics; architecture, construction and power engineering; natural sciences; economics and tourism; physical culture, sport and choreography; electronic education; a law institute; a pedagogical institute; an institute for the humanities; and a Higher School of Music and Theatre.

The university website also lists a testing centre for foreign citizens. VlSU has cooperation agreements with foreign universities, for example with Baku State University.
